Ember’s Video on Youtube

August 19, 2010

Just put the video up for my Embers remix.  It’d be nice if it could get to 25,00o views like my other video.  I’m not sure people the same number of people are looking for Just Jack remixes though…..

80′s Babe O’ The Day: Willie Scott

July 31, 2010

So last night I checked out the midnight showing of Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom at the classic Main Theater in Royal Oak.  Now, everyone who knows me, knows that I’m a huge Indiana Jones nut.  As in, I own a brown fedora and distressed leather jacket.  Thus, I obivously jumped at the chance to see the middle film from my favorite movie franchise on an old-school big screen.

I haven’t watched it in years, but I came away thinking a couple things:

  1. Indiana Jones has a lot of cheesy action and humor.  Crystal Skull wasn’t alone in this.
  2. Harrison Ford in a bow tie is ridiculous.
  3. Willie Scott is hot.

Thus, I give you the very first incarnation of the-soon-to-be-infamous tradition I call “80′s Babe O’ The Day”

Jams A-hoy

July 31, 2010

Welcome plebeians, to the brand new, freshly coded, Phillip Martell Blogspace.  On this space, you’ll get daily musings from yours truly, including some of my favorites choons, movies, books, pictures, etc.  I’ll also be posting random thoughts about whatever.  Most importantly though, i’ll be posting my favorite jams from the past and present.

If you’re wondering about me, I’m a producer/DJ from Detroit who currently goes to school in Atlanta.  Some of my favorite artists include Mark Knopfler, Lifelike, Bruce Springsteen, Fred Falke, The Beach Boys, Andy Moor, and many more.  I make electronic music with a hint of 80′s retro thrown in there but all my productions and mixes involve one critical component: melodies. And lots of them.

One thing I’ve been jamming to a lot right now is this new track from Grum, Through The Night.  It’s got a spicy synth break down and I love the vocals in the verse.

This is also becoming one of my favorite songs, The Beach Boys-Caroline, No.  It’s the 13th and final track off the incredible Pet Sounds.  I’ve been listening to this album all summer and it’s quickly breaking into my Top 10 of all time (future post for that).  It’s yearning symphonies of adolescent longing, combined with the ethereal harmonies of the Wilson brothers, Mike Love, and Al Jardin, make this album an all-time classic.  This song particular gets at me, probably because of the EPIC falsetto when Brian Wilson sings “Break my heart…..” INCREDIBLE.
